Board of Directors

Camp Artaban is incorporated as the Camp Artaban Society under the Societies Act of the Province of British Columbia, Canada. The Society is controlled by a general membership and operates as a Related Group under the Diocese of New Westminister, Anglican Church of Canada.

David Quinton- Chairperson

David belongs to Holy Trinity Anglican, Vancouver, and sits on the parish council. He has been a board member of Camp Artaban Society for many of the past 20 years, including Chair of the Board for five years. He has also been the Executive Director, On-Site Director in the early 1990s, and Chair of Program Committee. David is a pipe organ tuner by trade and has also been a youth group leader and on Diocesan youth committees. He offers tremendous passion, skills, and commitment to Camp Artaban.

Nancy Ferris- Secretary

Nancy is a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church in Chilliwack and has been widely involved with the Camp Artaban Society since 1984. She first started at camp by volunteering as a counselor, and then as paid staff in the kitchen. She then volunteered for several summers as a program staff and session director, and then worked as the Onsite Director for several more years. After serving on the Program and Field Administration committees, she joined the Board of Management to support the mission and purpose of Camp Artaban: sharing the Good News through the context of camping. She recognizes how blessed we are to have such an amazing location through which to carry out this ministry, and is grateful for the opportunity to serve camp year-round as a volunteer.

Nancy works as a teacher in the Chilliwack School District and with a diploma in Place and Nature-Based Education and a Masters degree in Educational Practice, continues to be passionate about sharing with others her love of camp, it’s location and what it has to offer, and to help continue the ministry of Camp Artaban.

Ian Thomas- Vice Chairperson

Ian, a father of two adult daughters and four grandchildren, and a resident of Lynn Valley in North Vancouver, is a member of St. Clement’s Anglican Church and has served on the Artaban Society Board for one year.

Trained initially as a teacher, Ian, now retired, worked in community college administration and in senior government positions in Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia. Ian has served as both People’s and Rector’s Warden at St. Clement’s, as well as serving on the Diocesan Council of the Diocese of New Westminster. Ian previously served on the Board of the Diocese of Niagara’s Cantebury Hills Camp.

Mark Trendell-Jensen

Mark has been attending Artaban in some fashion for most of his life: starting from when he was just a toddler and then continuing into his childhood, teen years, and adulthood. He has been a camper, a counsellor, a work party-er, and now a board member. He has many fond memories of Artaban and is always keen to give back how he can.

Mark has spent his life in Vancouver, with some short stints abroad, and currently finds himself working in finance. When he’s not number crunching, he’s reading a good book, going to the gym, or careening down the mountain bike trails on the North Shore Mountains.

Sean Buxton

Since 1987, Camp Artaban has been a home away from home for Sean. He has held almost every staff position from counsellor to director and was fortunate enough to be on permanent staff for two summers, once on maintenance and then in the kitchen.

As a young adult, the off-season was filled with work parties when he was more often at camp than at home. These experiences at Camp have given him a broad knowledge of Artaban's infrastructure and the challenges inherent to maintaining it. Sean hopes to support camp in a new capacity on the board of directors and looks forward to being able to use his experience and knowledge to support the mission of Camp Artaban.

Chris Walks

Chris Walks is a long time Artabaner, and has had many roles, including: camper, counsellor, permie, camp director, society member, donor, and board member (2002-2003, 2007-2010). For Chris, Camp Artaban has been a place of friendship, challenge, and mental, physical and spiritual growth. The goal is for more people to experience the beauty of Camp Artaban, so that they can develop friendships and be transformed from their time at Camp Artaban.

Chris Walks is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CHPR) and Provincial Instructor Diploma. Chris has a BA from Simon Fraser University, and has worked with BC Hydro for the past 14 years.
