Registrar & HR Assistant

The Camp Artaban Society is looking for a full-time student to fill the role of Registrar and HR Assistant in the Camp office from May to September 2018.

You will be responsible for processing camper and staff registrations, ensuring they are correctly entered into the database and all forms are in order before the camping session begins. The Registrar & HR Assistant is also responsible for managing boat days where campers and staff depart to and arrive from Camp Artaban.

You will need a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for boat days in Horseshoe Bay.

You will be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, have good organizational skills and take instruction well. Once trained you will be expected to work independently, sometimes as the sole person in the office. Successful applicants over the age of 18 will be required to complete a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check. You will also be required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement.

Hours: up to 40/week including some weekends

Program Assistant & Expediter

The Camp Artaban Society is looking for a full-time student enrolled in an education program to fill the role of Program Assistant & Expediter in the Camp Artaban office in North Vancouver, with time spent onsite on Gambier Island, from May to September 2018.

You will be responsible for researching updated regulations for each program area at camp to ensure Camp Artaban is in compliance with accreditation standards and updating program area manuals accordingly, as well as all staff manuals. You will work closely with Artaban staff and directors to create specific programming to support Camp Artaban’s goals and objectives. You will also be responsible for purchasing items required on site and delivering them to Horseshoe Bay or Sunset Marina to meet boats going to camp and assisting to facilitate boat days where campers and staff depart to and arrive from Camp Artaban.

You will need a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for shopping for camp as well as boat days in Horseshoe Bay or Sunset Marina.

You will have good time management and recording skills, take instruction well and be competent at basic math. A knowledge of the current BC schools’ curriculum would be an asset. Once trained you will be expected to work independently. Successful applicants over the age of 18 will be required to complete a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check. You will also be required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement.

The following positions are available:

Head Cook:
Responsible for providing food services for up to 175 people per meal and leading a kitchen crew of 5 others. Food Safe level 2 mandatory.

Assistant Cooks:
Responsible for assisting the Head Cook in all areas of food services. Will act as main cook in Head Cook’s absence. Must have Food Safe level 1. (Level 2 an asset).

Lifeguards:
Responsible for running an open ocean waterfront program. Responsible for program development, facilitation and waterfront staff leadership. NLS required. OFA level lll an asset. Boating experience an asset.

First Aiders:
Live-in First Aider for staff and campers. OFA level lll required. Field experience with children recommended. Belay ticket and experience with climbing an asset.

Program Leaders:
Responsible for running a variety of program areas onsite, including crafts, sports, outtripping, archery and climbing. A belay ticket is required for running the climbing wall.  Field experience with children recommended. First Aid an asset.

Rental Assistants:
Responsible for janitorial cleaning, general grounds upkeep and some building projects. Previous construction or other related experiences an asset. Must have a minimum class 7N driver’s license.

All staff over the age of 18 will be required to submit a clean Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check. Staff are paid on a contract basis, no deductions will be made from the pay cheque and no T4 will be issued. Staff are required to declare their income to Canada Revenue Agency.

camp Summer Staff (Permies)

Applications are now being accepted for all Summer Staff positions.

Head Cook:

Responsible for preparing menus and meals for campers and staff with special dietary needs. Will also be responsible for preparing and serving regular camp meals and general kitchen clean up. Must have Food Safe Level 1.

Kitchen Helpers:
Responsible for preparing and serving meals and general kitchen clean up. Must have Food Safe Level 1

Lifeguards:
